artists and engineers

The founding members of EAT were two engineers, Billy Kluver and Fred Waldhauer, and two artists, Robert Rauschenberg and Robert Whitman. Together, these four people were able to utilize their knowledge and connections across fields to help bring art and artists into the digital age. Kluver and Waldhauer were each successful electrical engineers at Bell Telephone Laboratories, and Robert Whitman and the late Robert Rauschenberg are American artists who have each exhibited around the world, and whose works often incorporate technology and address its changing role in our world. Throughout the lifetime of the organization, many more artists and engineers became involved in EAT and collaborated to create the projects that made EAT so influential.
